Why Moneyworks exists

As people move into the second half of their working lives, financial decisions become more complex, not less. Retirement brings new questions about income, risk, flexibility, and how long savings need to last. At the same time, the noise around investing, markets, and “expert” opinion only increases.

Moneyworks exists to help people think clearly about these decisions. We work alongside our clients to provide structured, thoughtful financial planning that supports life after work - helping them move into retirement with confidence and adapt as circumstances change.

Our approach to financial planning and investing

Ethical investing and financial planning mean different things to different people. We work with our clients to understand what matters to them and reflect that in their financial planning and investment decisions.

For us, financial planning comes first. We start with your goals, priorities, and constraints, and build a plan that brings everything together - retirement income, investments, KiwiSaver, and ongoing advice. Investment decisions are made in service of that plan, not in isolation.

Ethical considerations are part of the decision-making process, not a separate overlay. That means looking beyond labels and marketing claims, understanding trade-offs, and helping clients make informed choices that align with both their financial needs and their values.

Who we typically work with

We work with professionals and couples - including managers, scientists, doctors, engineers, public servants, IT specialists and other analytical thinkers - who value expert guidance and thoughtful decision-making.

Many of our clients have paid off their mortgage and are focused on how their savings and investments can support the life they want, both as they approach retirement and once they are living it. Others are already retired and want reassurance that their financial arrangements remain appropriate as markets and circumstances change.

What our clients tend to have in common is a desire for clear thinking, long-term relationships, and advice that evolves as life does.

Your Moneyworks team

Carey Church - Managing Director, Financial Planner and Ethical Investment Adviser

Peter Church - Financial Planner and Ethical Investment Adviser

Paul Swarbrick  - Financial Planner and Ethical Investment Adviser

We are a small, experienced team of financial planning professionals who work closely together to support our clients over the long term. Collaboration, continuity, and sound judgement are central to how we work.

Moneyworks is led by Carey Church, Managing Director and Financial Planner, alongside Paul and Peter, both Financial Planners and Ethical Investment Advisers. As a team, we bring decades of experience in financial planning, investing, and retirement advice.

Rather than a single-adviser model, clients benefit from a team approach - providing depth, resilience, and consistency over time.

What guides our work

Our advice is shaped by a set of core values that emphasise integrity, honesty, trust, respect, and reliability. These values guide how we work with clients, how we make decisions, and how we respond when circumstances change.

We believe good advice requires independence of thought, transparency, and the willingness to explain not just what we recommend, but why. Our approach to ethical investing reflects this, focusing on careful analysis rather than assumptions or slogans.

Recognition and Responsibility

Our approach to financial planning and ethical investing has been recognised by independent organisations, including multiple Mindful Money Awards for Best Ethical Financial Adviser, and our certification as a B Corporation.

We are also actively involved in our local and professional communities, contributing time and expertise to organisations aligned with education, responsible investment, and community wellbeing.

A considered next step

If you are approaching retirement, or are already retired, and are looking for thoughtful financial planning grounded in clear thinking and aligned values, we would be happy to talk.

We have worked with Moneyworks for over sixteen years, and the annual review remains the most valuable part of the service. The discussions help us think and plan, rather than drift, and the investment management is an important part of that ongoing relationship.

When we first sought advice, we were wary that a financial adviser might focus on selling particular products. That has never been our experience with Moneyworks. Instead, the advice has been thoughtful, independent, and focused on what is right for us.
