Moneyworks Team
Managing Director · Financial Planner · Ethical Investment Adviser
Carey works with clients who are approaching retirement, or already retired, and want thoughtful financial planning that supports clear decision-making over the long term. Her work is grounded in careful analysis, practical judgement, and an understanding that good financial planning is as much about thinking well as it is about numbers.
Carey has advised clients for many years and has worked alongside people through market cycles, life transitions, and retirement itself. She places particular emphasis on helping clients understand their options, weigh trade-offs, and make decisions that align with what matters to them — rather than drifting into default choices.
A lifelong learner, Carey’s academic and professional development reflects the breadth of her work. She holds degrees in economics and science, and more recently completed an Honours degree in Law. This study has deepened her understanding of the regulatory, governance, and compliance environment in which financial planning operates, and informs the way she approaches advice in practice.
Carey’s approach brings together financial planning, investment strategy, and ethical considerations in a way that is practical rather than ideological. Ethical investing is treated as part of the decision-making process — informed by evidence, transparency, and client values — rather than as a label or promise.
In addition to working directly with clients, Carey leads Moneyworks as Managing Director. She is responsible for the firm’s professional standards, regulatory obligations, and long-term direction, and works closely with the team to ensure advice is well-researched, consistent, and aligned with the firm’s values.
Carey contributes to professional and community discussions on financial planning and responsible investment, and values the role of education in helping people make better financial decisions.
Outside work, Carey enjoys gardening, cooking, staying active, and travelling with Peter, often combining overseas travel with cycling.
Financial Planner · Ethical Investment Adviser
Peter works with clients who value careful analysis, long-term thinking, and a disciplined approach to financial planning and investing. His work focuses on helping clients make well-considered decisions, grounded in evidence and aligned with their goals, particularly as they approach and move through retirement.
Peter brings a distinctive perspective to financial planning shaped by a varied professional background. Earlier in his career, he worked in accountancy before spending many years as a professional fly-fishing guide, establishing an international reputation in the field. During that time, he worked closely with successful business owners, senior executives, and professionals, gaining a strong appreciation for disciplined decision-making, risk awareness, and the importance of setting and achieving meaningful goals.
At Moneyworks, Peter has a key role in the firm’s investment research function. He is responsible for overseeing investment analysis, monitoring global economic and financial conditions, and ensuring that the investment solutions recommended to clients are robust, well-researched, and appropriate. His work draws on both external investment committee experience and the leadership of Moneyworks’ internal investment committee.
Peter’s professional development reflects his commitment to informed, responsible advice. He holds postgraduate qualifications in financial planning and has completed specialist study in responsible investment. Ongoing research and learning are central to his role, particularly in understanding how global markets, regulation, and ethical considerations affect long-term investment outcomes.
Peter is known by clients for his thoughtful approach, enquiring mind, and commitment to helping people understand the financial decisions they are making. He places particular emphasis on education, believing that good advice is most effective when clients are engaged and well-informed.
Outside work, Peter enjoys fishing, playing cricket, staying active, and travelling with Carey, often combining overseas travel with cycling. He is also involved in local community organisations and contributes time to volunteer roles within the Cambridge community.
Financial Planner · Ethical Investment Adviser
Paul works with clients to bring structure and clarity to their financial planning, particularly as they approach retirement and begin to rely more deliberately on their savings and investments. He supports clients across investment planning, KiwiSaver, cashflow, and insurance where relevant, with an emphasis on practicality, follow-through, and keeping arrangements appropriate as circumstances change.
Paul brings extensive experience from a long career in banking, finance, and insurance, where he worked closely with individuals and families on a wide range of financial decisions. This background gives him a strong understanding of how financial products operate in practice, where complexity can arise, and how unintended consequences can be avoided through careful planning.
In addition to his client work, Paul supports Moneyworks’ investment research function, contributing to analysis and implementation alongside the wider team. His professional development reflects a commitment to informed, responsible advice, including specialist study in responsible investment and formal qualifications in financial services.
Clients value Paul’s steady, considered approach and his ability to explain financial issues clearly and without unnecessary complexity. He places importance on helping people feel informed and confident about the decisions they are making.
Outside work, Paul values time with family and enjoys golf, always with an eye on improving his handicap.
Millie Moneybot
Moneyworks’ internal automation and analysis system
Millie is Moneyworks’ in-house automation and analysis system. She supports the team by handling a range of administrative and data-driven processes that improve consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across the business.
Originally developed to support the firm’s annual review process and documentation, Millie has evolved to automate many routine tasks that would otherwise require significant manual effort. This allows the team to spend less time on administration and more time thinking, analysing, and working directly with clients.
Millie also supports data analysis used in understanding client portfolios and investment structures. These processes help surface insights and check consistency, but do not replace human judgement. All advice, recommendations, and decisions are made by qualified financial planners.
Millie is not artificial intelligence and does not operate independently. She performs defined tasks designed and overseen by the Moneyworks team, with ongoing support from a dedicated developer who has worked closely with the firm for many years.
We think of Millie as part of the infrastructure that supports good advice - working quietly in the background so people can do their work well.
